A Brief History of Beverly, Massachusetts

Coastal Byway Miles: 6.1 miles

Beverly was first settled in 1626 as part of Salem, Massachusetts. Since then, the seaside town has flourished into its own identity gaining quite a few nicknames – the Garden City, the Birthplace of America’s Navy, and the Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. These monikers are fitting as Beverly was where the first ship commissioned for the US Navy was built and held the nation’s first cotton mill.
